The Staff was
presented to the Company by John Boulton, Master 1795. John Boulton traded as
an Upholder at 48 Threadneedle Street between 1777 and 1794. The staff is in
ivory and has a fluted handle and oval flat top. One side is fitted with a
silver shield engraved with the arms of the City of London bordered by the
following: “May the Fraternity of Upholders continue forever”. The second side
is fitted with a silver shield engraved with the Company’s arms and inscribed:
“A small token of respect from John Boulton, elected Master, August 1795.”
