Peter Lawton was installed Master of the Worshipful Company of Upholders on Wednesday 25th April, 2007
Peter is a Director of a company providing blue chip companies with corporate hospitality, sports sponsorship, conferencing and incentive travel.
He has been a Liveryman since 1994 and became of member of the Court in 2002. Educated at Friern Barnet Grammar School and Regents Street Polytechnic, he qualified as a surveyor in 1967, but had a change of business direction in 1980.
Peter lives in Cuffley, Hertfordshire and is married to Vera. They have a
daughter and a son and one grandson. He is a member of the MCC and follows
cricket. He plays golf and has yet to attain a single figure handicap or a hole
in one.


John had two musical parents, his mother was a violinist and his father a singer and pianist, so a love of music has always been a part of his life. From singing in the local church choir as a boy he was drawn into the Christian community and, after school at K.C.S. Wimbledon, national service and three more years in Cambridge he offered himself for ordination in the Church of England.
Married to Margaret, who teaches piano and is an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, they have four children and twelve grandchildren.
In 1991 he came to London to be Rector of St. Olaves Church in the City and soon became Chaplain of the Upholders' Company, a role he has gladly filled ever since.
John retired in 2005 and now lives in the village of Burmarsh on Romney Marsh in Kent, where he looks after a small 12th century church and the local villagers.
Jean was Clothed in the Livery in January 2003
and was appointed Clerk in May 2003. She is a Freeman of the City of London and
a Freeman of the Company.
Jean was born in South London on 28th February 1947 and studied at Trinity School, the first purpose built comprehensive school for girls in London. At 17, having gained several GCEs including English, Maths and Art, she began work in one of Lloyds of London's insurance companies as an Audio Typist and Secretary.
Jean was married to James in 1965 and has two sons and a daughter, all of whom are married - she currently has four grandsons and two granddaughters. She is a Director of the family engineering supplies business.
Jean is President for the fifth time of the Innerwheel Club of Penge, an
international organisation providing fundraising and service for local and
international charities. Her hobbies include her grandchildren and family,
cooking and home entertaining, holidays and travel, container gardening,
Scottish Country Dancing and genealogy.
